Columbus Blue Jackets GM Has No Idea Who He Traded Rick Nash For
When news broke of the stunning trade that sent superstar Rick Nash to the New York Rangers, Columbus Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson was among the most surprised, despite officially agreeing to the deal.
“I just told him to send whoever,” Howson said, referring to Rangers GM Glen Sather. “I just got tired of the whole thing. I’m so tired of hearing about Rick Nash. Jesus – I just don’t care anymore.”
Howson admitted that he tried to pry away budding star defenseman Marc Del Zotto from the Rangers, but Sather refused.
“Sather damn well knew that Nash only wanted to go to the Rangers, so he could have offered me a half-eaten donut and a picture of his dog and I would have had to accept it,” Howson said as he threw darts at a picture of Nash. “So he gave me three guys I’ve never heard of whose combined salary comes out to almost exactly what that (expletive) Nash was making.”
The combined salary of Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, and Tim Erixon total up to $7.825 milion. Nash’s annual cap it comes out to $7.8 million.
“The sonofabitch couldn’t even allow us to save a little money,” Howson said.
When asked if he was at all familiar with any of the players Nash was traded for, Howson did not respond because he was too busy setting a Nash jersey on fire.
